Today you will learn how to use adverb clauses with 'while' and 'whereas' to show contrast and how to use 'if', 'whether or not', and 'even if' to show conditions.
For homework, complete C17 Ex8-12 pp. 366-369 in your grammar handout.
2. Writing
In writing, you will revise and edit your persuasive paragraph guided by questions (Write Source 8, p.222). This afternoon in Publishing class you will publish your work in your new blog.
You will also read the position essay 'Open Study Halls' (Write Source 8, p.225) to analyze its purpose, intended audience, position, and supporting ideas.
3. Publishing
In today's lesson, you'll do learn how to create your own blog using Blogger. For this week, you'll start a blog that is a journal of your work work in writing class. Your first entry will include your persuasive paragraph. Here's what you need to do:
- Open Firefox browser by clicking the icon on your Desktop.
- Sign in to Google Accounts by clicking on 'My Account' in the Firefox Toolbar. You should now be in the 'Google Accounts' page.
- Click on 'Blogger'. If you don't see this, then just click 'More' at the bottom of the page.
- In Blogger you'll need to enter your password and display name, then check the terms & conditions before clicking 'Continue'
- Now enter your Blog Title and the URL you would like to use for your blog. Then click on 'Check Availability' to see if your URL has already been taken. If it has, then try another URL until it works and then click on 'Continue'
- Now choose your template and click on Continue'
- You are now ready to start blogging. Type in a title such as 'My Persuasive Paragraph' then type up your persuasive paragraph in the body of your blog. Feel free to write anything else about what you learned in the class. When you've finished click on 'Publish'
- Now check out your blog online by clicking 'View Blog (in a new window)'
- You're done. Good Job!
- Go to your Gmail account
- Read my email 'Hi Everyone Please Read This' and follow instructions.
- Now click on 'Contact' on the left menu and then 'All contacts' in the screen that pops up. You should see that all the names of the students on summer school have been added to your list of contacts. Now that's magic!
Now you are ready to share post from your Google Reader subscribed feeds with your friends. Follow these instructions:
- Go to Google Reader
- On the left click on one of your subscribed feeds (e.g. Only Riddles.com - thousands of Riddles)
- Now click on a post that you would like to share with your friends
- At the bottom of this post window click on 'Share'
- In the top left corner click on 'You Stuff' to check if you are sharing this
- Now click on 'Friends' Shared Items' to see what your friends are sharing with you.
- That's all folks!
